Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Bonsai Pods and Sensei.
Product Basics
What is a Bonsai Pod?
A Bonsai Pod is a dedicated virtual private server (VPS) paired with an AI operator called Sensei. It’s your own private infrastructure — not shared, not multi-tenant — with an autonomous AI that monitors, maintains, and improves your systems around the clock.
What is Sensei?
Sensei is the AI operator that runs on your Bonsai Pod. It monitors server health, proposes improvements, executes approved tasks, creates content, manages deployments, and learns your preferences over time. You interact with Sensei through Discord.
How is this different from other AI tools?
Most AI tools are shared services where your data passes through someone else’s infrastructure. A Bonsai Pod is your own dedicated server with your own AI operator. Your data stays on your machine. Sensei works continuously — not just when you prompt it. It’s an operator, not a chatbot.
What can Sensei actually do?
Sensei can monitor server health and security, manage deployments and infrastructure, create and optimize content (AEO/SEO), research competitors and markets, execute code changes, manage databases, run scheduled tasks, and provide daily briefings — all with your approval.
Security & Privacy
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your Bonsai Pod is a dedicated server — your data never leaves your machine unless you explicitly configure it to. We do not share infrastructure between customers. Your code, your data, your control.
Who has access to my server?
Only you and your Sensei operator have access. Our team may access your server for maintenance or support, but only with your explicit permission. You can revoke access at any time.
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored on your dedicated VPS. We use reputable data center providers with servers located in the United States. Your data is not replicated to shared storage or accessed by other customers.
Technical Requirements
Do I need coding skills?
No. Sensei handles the technical work. You interact through Discord using plain language. If you are technical, you also get full SSH access and can work alongside Sensei directly.
Can Sensei work with my existing stack?
Yes. Sensei integrates with GitHub, GitLab, various databases, APIs, WordPress, Laravel, Node.js, Python, and many other tools and frameworks. During onboarding we configure Sensei for your specific technology stack.
Setup & Onboarding
How long does setup take?
Most Pods are provisioned and operational within 48 hours of onboarding. The onboarding call typically takes 30–60 minutes to understand your goals and configure Sensei for your needs.
What happens during onboarding?
We start with a call to understand your goals, tech stack, and priorities. Then we provision your dedicated VPS, install and configure Sensei, connect your tools, set up Discord integration, and hand you the keys. You will have a working Pod within 48 hours.
